While I am not a sailing kind of person, when you are wanabee boater any excuse will work to go to a boat show.
Yes there was a lot of beautiful new boats, a lot of racing oriented sailing boats and a great sunny day. Overall prices seemed subdued and the “sail off packages” were very comprehensive making for good buys. When asked the various vendors were grateful for the crowds, but not many buyers. I only saw one brand new 48 footer with a sold sign.
What was very interesting was everyone was upbeat – happy to be out on a nice day and earnestly interested in boats over all. I see this as a very good sign even with local automotive gas prices at $4.10 a US Gallon and marina dock prices even higher.
What was missing was any real excitement about the America’s Cup coming to the San Francisco Bay in 2013, even the AC45 on display did not attract any crowds and the looped videos inside their tent were only mildly attended. Oh well maybe as we get closer the excitement will build.
I had a conversation with a broker on the bay and they are moving used boats on a regular basis so that is good news for sellers. No info on pricing just activity level.
That is all for now. Take Care

We all get magazines and keep them for the one or two articles that are important. There is also all the manuals for every product we buy and every system on the boat. Paper gets lost, crumpled or destroyed, so turning it into a digital files and being able to find it anytime you need it make a lot of sense.
Once digitized your laptop or Ipad can quickly make it available and even print the one or two pages you may need at the moment. While not cheap this one has been reviewed by many users who rate it very high because it just works ( Mac or PC versions available ). I can see digitizing everything and being able to find it when I need it as the best way to go for me. Link
Built-in Ice makers need electrical, water plumbing, are expensive to have installed and a sizable space must be committed to them.
I think for the times that you actually use one a portable ice maker would make much more sense. It is only using power when needed, has no water connection to break and is easily stored below when not used.LINK

Sounds on a boat are a given. To some they are the sounds that allow you to go to sleep at night. To others they are the sounds that drive you batty. Maybe it is your generator when it runs, the water maker or the TV in the galley when you are trying to sleep.
To work any given problem you need a source and I think I have found a sound source that may tame the beast.
The site’s name is a bit odd but they seem to have what is needed LINK
Now you have to admit that this is not one of the hottest topics
But I was just reading about one that really seems to do something special, and could over all make your life easier every time you use your anchor.
What is it, well it is the “Ultra Flip Swivel” made out of stainless steel and it does a very important function. By design and by default when you use this device to connect your anchor chain to your anchor it allows your anchor to automatically move into the right position just as it hits your windless roller.
This is best seen to understand, the first part of the video is what can happen without the swivel, and the second half of the video shows how this device works.
This is really basic and simple but it works and saves a trip to the windless to perform the same function by hand. If you are anchoring frequently this good be a real time saver and would save wear and tear on the windless. LINK
